Jordan Coduri steps up to the mark to rescue Emley for the second time in four days, writes club reporter Luke Greaves

AFC Emley have now stretched their unbeaten run to six games – but only just. Jordan Coduri’s late strike rewarded the visitors with a 2-1 victory as the comeback was complete with 5 minutes to go.

Josh Batty opened the scoring, but Ashley Flynn cancelled out that strike with an equaliser halfway through the second half. Coduri’s goal sealed the win late on.

AFC Emley started off the half brightly. They have hit the post on an unfavourable amount of occasions in recent weeks and this time it was Sam Jerome who had his hands on his head after a goalmouth scramble following a corner.

The game soon settled as two top quality sides attempted to break each other down. Both Graham McLachlan and Lewis Tomlinson had very little to do in the early exchanges.

It was, though, Winterton, who with their first chance of the match, took the lead. Jason Carney and Jordan Townend both went missing on the right wing, which allowed the highly impressive Jack Batty a world of space to run into. He left Sam Jerome for dead and dispatched his strike into the bottom corner.

As the first half grew older, Emley started to get a stronger foothold of the match and began to start worrying Lewis Tomlinson.

First, an unmarked Joe Brennan fired low from a narrow angle but was thwarted by the Winterton keeper, before Tomlinson cut out the danger from Jordan Coduri’s effort.

As the half-time whistle beckoned, it seemed as though Ashley Flynn would pull the visitors level, but he uncharacteristically put it too close to the goalkeeper, who in truth, did well to get down and get a strong hand to it.

Under pressurising circumstances, Emley still looked lacklustre in areas and Winterton looked the likelier of the two to score next. Shortly after the teams returned from the interval, Rhys Vazquez was left disappointed after the unmarked forward saw his header at the back post go wide.

Substitutes Doran Jordan and Robbie Graham proved to be influential on Emley’s eventual win after bringing a new energy to the match.

Soon after their introduction, Jordan Coduri played a perfect ball towards the pace of Ashley Flynn. Emley’s top scorer raced onto the ball and slotted under the goalkeeper to pull the game level with plenty of time for Darren Hepworth’s side to go in search of the winner.

But Winterton’s defence held firm. Ashley Flynn and Jordan Townend could only try their luck from distance – no more than stinging the palms of Tomlinson.

Emley wouldn’t stop there. Jordan Coduri was next to let fly from 30 yards out. Unlike his fellow team mates who opted for power, Coduri went for accuracy and put the ball into the very top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The goal came just four minutes before the final whistle, which proved too steep a mountain for Winterton to climb to rescue a point.

FT: Winterton Rangers 1 – 2 AFC Emley

Emley are now unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions and so will travel to Bradford based Campion on Saturday with a spring in their step, having jumped up to 8th in the table.

9th placed Campion won 3-1 against Nostell Miners on Wednesday evening. They too will be refreshed with confidence ahead of Saturday’s match.
