Energetic Emley engulf Rossington with electric performance, writes club reporter Luke Greaves

AFC Emley are back to winning ways after beating Rossington Main 4-0 at the Welfare Ground tonight.

Goals from Tom Brennan, Jordan Coduri, Kieran Ryan and Doran Jordan ensured that Emley took all three points.

Saturday’s uncharacteristically poor performance away to Campion AFC, which saw them lose 3-2, is now history because confidence levels are back on a high after a predatory performance.

The first half started in the favour of Emley, but the key focus was not to concede - that is how the script has run in their past three matches.

But the defensive quartet held strong and restricted Rossington to rare opportunities.

Emley’s primary concern for the night seemed to be putting the ball in the back of the night. Ashley Flynn and Jordan Coduri both saw an abundance of attempts blaze over the bar in the early stages, but as the half progressed, Ryan Musselwhite was called into action more frequently.

Flynn and Coduri, as well as Kieran Ryan, all had shots blocked by the keeper. The chances progressively became better, yet the misses became more embarrassing.

Goalscoring is never an issue within Darren Hepworth’s side. After all, last year’s top scorer in England is a regular in the starting line-up. However, Ashley Flynn is finding putting the ball into the back of the net a little more difficult than he did last season.

The forward needs a slight confidence boost, so maybe the performance of his team mates in the second half will provide him with all of the confidence he needs to regain his ruthless form.

The deadlock was eventually broken by Tom Brennan. Kieran Ryan unselfishly squared the ball to the centre-back, who had the easy task of slotting past goalkeeper Musselwhite.

Emley’s second goal took a while to arrive. The highly impressive Ryan Musselwhite was called into action on a number of occasions, most notably when he got a strong hand to Kieran Ryan’s piledriver.

But the imminent second goal did eventually come to a patient Emley side. Jordan Coduri bundled Liam Schofield’s free-kick into the back of the net with his head to score his third goal in his last four games.

And from there onwards, the floodgates burst open immediately.

Under a minute after the restart, Rossington conceded a penalty, which provided a great opportunity for Kieran Ryan to score his first goal since returning from injury. The big forward smashed the ball straight down the middle and made it 3-0.

Ryan was given a standing ovation when he was replaced by Doran Jordan just moments after putting the penalty away, but it was just one goalscorer replaced by another.

The ball sprawled through to the midfielder on the corner of the 18-yard-box before he smashed past a helpless Musselwhite.

FT: Emley 4 – 0 Rossington Main

Darren Hepworth will be delighted with his side’s convincing victory as Emley move up to 7th in the table with games in hand over those above them in the table.

14th placed Yorkshire Amateur will be the next side to visit the Welfare Ground on Saturday (15:00 KO), whose last game saw them lose in a narrow 3-2 defeat to Eccleshill United.
