Promotion rivals AFC Emley and Hall Road Rangers battled it out for a point in an entertaining 0-0 draw at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground on Saturday.

There were chances a plenty as Hall Road hit the post and tested Emley goalkeeper Graham McLachlan on numerous occasions.

Emley danger men Jordan Coduri, Kieran Ryan and Tom Robinson peppered the visitors’ goal but couldn’t find a breakthrough.

Darren Hepworth’s side have failed to score in back-to-back games for the first time this season as top scorer Ashley Flynn watched on from the stands.

Emley remain in 2nd in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One table but could slip to 4th if Hall Road and Penistone Church win their games in hand.

Though Emley’s hard efforts earned them a crucial point and they will travel to strugglers Rossington Main next Saturday in search of a first league win since January 21st.

It was a point that nearly wasn’t as McLachlan’s reflexes denied Hall Road an almost certain goal inside the first minute.

Hall Road then hit the post from a corner before Emley had a chance to get their foot on the ball.

Emley eventually sneaked into the game and could have opened the scoring through Ashley Scully’s low drive, which was saved by Hall Road goalkeeper Phil Dobson.

Ryan should have broken the deadlock on the hour when Jordan played a square ball but the centre forward blazed it over the bar from 12 yards.

Chris Spinks entered the miss of the season competition when he failed to capitalise on an open goal from close range.

As Emley’s luck increased they threatened to steal a late winner but Coduri couldn’t curl his effort into the top corner and Robinson’s volley cleared the stand.

McLachlan’s fingertips came to Emley’s rescue one more time as Tom Bennett’s bottom corner bound curler was parried wide in the closing stages.
