Four consecutive clean sheets aid Emley success, writes Luke Greaves.

AFC Emley stayed top of the Toolstation Northern Counties East League after beating Ollerton Town 2-0 at The Lane on Saturday afternoon.

The Huddersfield side, along with their promotion chasing counterparts, take a break from the league in midweek.

But there’s no rest for the wicked as Worksop Town travel to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a League Cup Third Round tie on Wednesday evening (7.45pm).

Manager Darren Hepworth paid homage to his side’s dominant defensive display as they kept a fourth consecutive clean sheet.

And whilst the defence has shut its doors, the attackers have upped the ante in their ruthlessness.

A grand total of thirty goals hit the back of the net in eight games in November and seven have already been registered so far this month.

That tally was notched up on Saturday thanks to goals from Ashley Flynn on either side of half time.

Flynn, the league’s top goalscorer with 33 in all competitions, has now scored in eight consecutive league matches, bagging 15 in the process.

He scored number 32 with ten minutes until half-time on Saturday.

But the plaudits belonged to Liam Schofield, whose inch-perfect cross to the back post landed on the head of Emley’s talisman.

Flynn could have had another straight after the break, but blazed over from 12 yards out.

His persistence for a second did eventually pay off as he slotted under the body of Ollerton goalkeeper Scott Gretton.
