Selby succumb to severe slaughtering, writes Luke Greaves.

AFC Emley returned to the play-off places this afternoon courtesy of a 7-1 slaughtering of Selby Town at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

Jordan Coduri scored the club’s second hat-trick in the space of three days, whilst Ashley Flynn scored a brace and Matthew Jackson and Joe Brennan made contributions.

The comprehensive victory will give the Pewits plenty of confidence heading into back-to-back cup matches with Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division sides.

Worksop Town travel to West Yorkshire on Wednesday night (19.45) for a NCEL League Cup 3rd Round clash before Cleethorpes Town make the two hour journey for an enthralling FA Vase Second Tie meeting next Saturday (15.00).

Emley’s 6th place will be threatened by the likes of Winterton Rangers and Campion AFC whilst the Huddersfield side turn their attention to the cup – the next league game is on Wednesday 16th November, away to Eccleshill United.

However, with plenty of games in hand, Darren Hepworth’s men should have no worries of regaining their play-off place, as well as making further ground on those above them such as Knaresborough Town and Grimsby Borough.

Their scintillating win today sent a seismic statement out to those around Emley in the table as Selby succumbed to a slaughtering.

Ashley Flynn has struggled to take off this season, but he made a step in the right direction this afternoon with a first half brace.

Jordan Coduri did marvellously to hold the ball up, before playing in Flynn, who was never going to refuse a point-blank range opportunity.

Then Flynn scored his second through his own forages. His lightening pace enabled him to soar away from the defender before slashing in at the near post.

Emley had a spring in their step but were knocked off balance when referee Drew Dutton awarded a dubious penalty to the visitors. Callum Ward didn’t need a second invitation to find the net from 12 yards out.

Flynn soon turned provider as he returned the favour to Coduri, who struck across the keeper and into the bottom corner to make it 3-1 at half-time.

Coduri was hungry for more and was rewarded for his hard work by a thunderous curler that made its way into the top right corner.

Joe Brennan, scorer of a hat-trick against Brigg Town in the 3-1 away victory in midweek, added to his two sublime goals at the Hawthorns with a sumptuous 30-yard chip, which looped over Robins goalkeeper Peter Lawrie.

The hosts’ were showing absolutely no mercy, though, as Coduri went hunting for his hat-trick. Thanks to an unselfish square pass from Kieran Ryan, who made an impressive return from injury after coming on from the bench, the winger was able to stroke home and claim the match ball.

To round off a simply superb show, Matthew Jackson slotted into the bottom corner to bring a picture perfect passage of play to a pretty end.

Today’s North Lights Physiotherapy Man of the Match was Jordan Coduri, after his hat-trick and three assists.
