AFC Emley made it sixteen games unbeaten with a 4-1 victory at Eccleshill United which also saw Ashley Flynn set another record.

His second goal of the game, which was also Emley’s second, broke the NCEL record for goals scored in a season by one player – his second strike being the 57th of an incredible campaign.

Ruben Jerome and Jordan Coduri were also on the scoresheet for Emley, with Eccleshill captain Jermaine Springer netting a consolation for the home side, with all the goals coming in the second half.

Eccleshill started off the brighter, with striker Lee Smith’s shot being saved by the outstretched leg of Adam Lawlor, before his strike partner Adam Turner’s effort was deflected into the hands of Lawlor.

Emley then started to enjoy a maintained spell of possession in the opponent’s third, with Flynn blazing a volley over following Kieran Ryan’s flick around the corner.

Turner had another opportunity for the home side, heading Smith’s cross over the bar. He also turned past Tom Brennan, releasing the ball into the path of Charlie Flaherty who saw his shot well saved by Adam Lawlor.

The closest any side got to scoring in the first half was Ryan’s shot smashing against the crossbar following a well worked move down the right hand side, before Ruben Jerome put the rebound wide.

Emley started incredibly fast in the second half, and had the lead in no time at all as Ryan won the ball back, before exchanging passes with Michael Tunnacliffe, the second pass releasing the striker into the penalty area before he put it across the goal for Flynn to turn home.

Alex Slack had a header from a corner well saved by the goalkeeper low down at his near post.

Then Flynn broke the NCEL record, scoring his 57th goal of the season with a well taken finish off the far post following some more good work by Ryan after Robbie Graham won the ball back in midfield.

It wasn’t long before Ruben Jerome got in on the act, receiving the ball from Flynn and finding the back of the net via a deflection off Jermaine Springer with the keeper beaten.

Eccleshill had some chances to get back into the game, with Turner and Ben Hardy both having shots go over from decent positions.

Jordan Coduri soon made it four with a goal out of nothing, curling in an effort from about 30 yards out right into the bottom corner leaving Eccleshill goalkeeper Joe Stead with no chance whatsoever.

Springer pulled one back for the home side, heading home a cross from substitute Jarrad Peltier.

They had a golden opportunity to reduce the arrears even further, but Charlie Flaherty spurned his chance, firing over from a central position with no one around him, just a few yards away from goal with only Lawlor to beat.
