AFC Emley continued to break scoring records in NCEL by scoring an incredible 13 goals against Grimsby Borough.

It was a game which saw every type of goal you could imagine. Ashley Flynn was eventually awarded with five of the goals as a couple of them could have gone down as own goals.

Alex Hallam and Michael Tunnacliffe both scored braces, Kieran Ryan and Jordan Coduri both chipped in with goals and Ruben Jerome netted from the penalty spot. Grimsby’s Jamie Pearson’s own goal was a lot clearer and wasn’t up for debate.

The annihilation began after just eight minutes. Hallam’s ball down the middle was dummied by Flynn who let it run for Ryan who played a lovely return ball to the oncoming Hallam whose shot across goal nicely found its way into the bottom corner.

The gap between that goal and Emley’s second was the longest of any during the game but Emley doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Hallam got his second thanks to a deflected shot from distance.

It didn’t take long for top scorer Flynn to get in on the act. Ryan slipped the ball into to Coduri, who was playing right-back, who drilled the ball across the box and gave Flynn the simple task of tapping the ball home.

Ryan then got the goal his good performance deserved 12 minutes later after some good work by Ruben Jerome on the left. He found Ryan in the box who still had to beat two men before smashing the ball into the roof of the net as Emley went into the break 4-0 up.

After 10 minutes of the second half Michael Tunnacliffe had added another two by netting twice in two minutes. The first a free kick from the right that looked to have been flicked on by Flynn before it hit the post and trickled in but Flynn didn’t manage to get contact on the ball so Tunnacliffe was awarded with the goal. There were no doubts about his second though as he side-footed Hallam’s cross to make it 6-0 after just 54 minutes.

Three minutes later Flynn got his second when he got on the end of Ryan’s curled through ball he then fired a low shot which hit the post and went in.

He completed his hat-trick seven minutes later when he rifled Jerome’s comeback into the goal. Jerome then got a goal for himself. Emley were awarded a penalty when he made a mazy run into the box and got brought down. Jerome was allowed to step up and take the penalty and the keeper had no chance with his powerful penalty into the top corner.

Emley reached double figures on 76th minute when Ryan’s cross was turned in by the unfortunate Jamie Pearson.
Flynn bagged another two in the last ten minutes. Slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner for his first and then he managed to squeeze the ball in from a really tight angle on the left hand side to make it 12.

Emley hit the teens with more or less the last kick of the game when Coduri got his name on the scoresheet with a header from a corner.

It was another perfect display from Emley but they could have scored even more. Flynn hit the post and Ryan had a few shots well saved by Leigh Cook.
