Emley Record Well Deserved Victory

AFC Emley stay top of the NCEL Division One thanks to a dominant 5-0 victory away at Winterton Rangers.
The visitors began the game the brightest, Doran Jordan seeing his shot deflected behind for a corner. From the resulting corner Sam Jerome rose highest to meet the ball, however, his header went narrowly past the post.
Jordan Townend then put Ashley Flynn through on goal, but the striker could only fire his shot at the keeper, who turned the ball behind.
The first goal of the game came shortly after from the following set piece. Townend whipped in a corner to the back post and the ball was bundled over the line by Winterton’s Martyn Severn.
It was 2-0 not long after, this time the goal coming from the boot of Flynn. Jordan found the run of Flynn with a through ball and the striker placed the ball past the advancing goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Almost straight from the kick off Emley made it 3-0. Emley took possession of the ball down the right flank and Townend teed up Kurtis Noble, the winger struck a first time left footed shot which rocketed past the outstretched hand of Daniel Waring.
The home side then managed to have their first real foray into the Emley area just before the half time interval, however the Emley backline bravely put bodies on the line in the form of skipper Paul Sykes and the ball was cleared to safety.
The home side started the second half with more attacking potency, however, they were still unable to break through an Emley defence that was holding firm. Declan Marshall had the chance to test Adam Lawlor from a free kick, but he could only strike against the wall.
Emley then started to get back into their attacking stride, Flynn and Jordan linking up well, before the latter found substitute Steven Kenworthy, however he dragged his shot wide of goal.
The away side did manage to find another goal, this time it was Jordan who managed to get his name on the score sheet. After the ball had been played into Kenworthy, he set Jordan on his way through to goal. The midfielder saw Waring approaching and chipped the ball over him and into the goal.
Jordan was back in action shortly after, this time turning back into provider, it was his cross that found sub Danny Claridge at the back post, but he managed to fire over.
Flynn and the two substitutes then linked up well on the edge of the area, Flynn finding Claridge who in turn found Kenworthy, but his shot looked destined for the bottom corner, but for the hand of Waring in the Winterton goal.
Jordan was again pivotal to Emley’s final goal of the game as he jinked his way into the box, before being tripped by the Winterton defender. Sykes took captains privilege, as he himself stepped up to take the penalty. The keeper saved well from a powerfully taken penalty, but Sykes was first to react to the ball and steered home to make it 5-0.
Darren Hepworth’s men are back in action at the weekend when they welcome Worsbrough Bridge Athletic to the Welfare Ground.
