Emley Share Spoils In Draw

AFC Emley endured poor conditions away at Pontefract Collieries in order to come away with a point, in a game which truthfully speaking was as dull as the weather.
In a game that was fairly limited in chances on goal, it was the hosts who mustered the first attempt on goal in the first half. Andrew Catton managed to find his way through on goal, however, Adam Lawlor was quick to get off his line and smother the ball before Catton could get his shot away.
Emley soon replied with a chance of their own. Antony Brown flicked the ball into the path of Ashley Flynn’s run, the striker however could only manage to fire his shot well wide of the goal whilst under pressure from the recovering defender.
The hosts then got a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the Emley penalty area, Mark Whitehouse struck the free kick at goal, but could only see his effort drift wide of the Emley goal.
Meanwhile back at the other end, Ash Flynn once again found himself beyond the Pontefract backline, but once again the striker could only manage to drill his shot wide of Craig Parry’s goal.
Emley then had a string of corners that were ably dealt with by the Pontefract defence, before the hosts were reduced to ten men when Phil Lindley was sent off for his second bookable offence.
The chances in the second half were few and far between, with the home team sending a free kick into the Emley penalty area, but seeing it cleared by the defence, whilst Emley’s nearest chances of the half came through corners, however, the Pontefract defenders managed to clear the ball to safety.
The closest chance of the half fell to the hosts after some good pressure around the Emley penalty area. Once the ball was put into the area Aaron Moxam rose highest to head the ball, but could only direct his header wide of the goal.
AFC Emley are on the road once again on Saturday, this time they travel to Bottesford Town, whilst the development side are also in action on Saturday in the Quarter finals of the Sheffield and Hallam FA Association Cup, where they are due to travel to Kingstone United.
