Miserable Morning For Emley

It was a disappointing result for AFC Emley, as a bumper crowd witnessed the side go down to ten men and lose 3-0 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
With the game being part of the Groundhop weekend, Emley saw their record attendance since reformation broken, with 463 spectators coming through the turnstiles.
Goals from Nash Connolly, Dominic Blair and Nicholas Guest ruined the day for the Emley faithful and it could have been worse as Guest also missed a spot kick for the visitors, whilst Ashley Flynn also missed from the spot late on for the hosts. Whilst Emley also saw Ruben Jerome receive his marching orders midway through the second half.
Hemsworth took the lead with virtually the last action of the first half. Connolly got ahead of his marker in the centre of the area and headed firmly into the top corner away from Adam Lawlor in the Emley goal.
The second goal of the game came shortly after the half time interval, a quickly taken free kick caught the Emley players flatfooted, allowing Blair to nip in and fire past Lawlor.
Shortly after Jerome had seen red, the visitors made it 3-0. Blair this time turned to provider as he ran down the Hemsworth right, before crossing to the near post where Guest ran in to flick home.
The first half was a scrappy affair with both sides earning set pieces, but not creating anything from them. Michael Tunnacliffe tested Jack Bentley with a long range effort, however the Hemsworth keeper held on well. Whilst at the other end Adam Wilson got in behind the Emley defence but blazed his shot over the bar.
Following the goal late in the first half, Hemsworth started the second half in the ascendancy, with Connolly forcing Lawlor into a good save.
Shortly after the visitors made it 2-0 and the hosts saw Jerome receive a straight red card for a late challenge on Samuel Colbear, much to the dismay of the home fans.
Once Hemsworth had made it 3-0, the numerical advantage began to show, whilst Emley still tried to compete and grab a goal to make the latter stages more nerve-wracking.
However it was Hemsworth who came closest once again as Colbear glanced a back post header at goal, but Paul Sykes managed to get in the way to block the attempt on the goal line.
Hemsworth then had the chance to score from the penalty spot after Blair was brought down in the box, Guest stepped up but Lawlor guessed the right way and held on to his effort.
At the other end, Tunnacliffe managed to get down the right flank before crossing a ball into the box, where Flynn was on hand to head at goal, however his attempt came back off the upright.
Flynn then had the chance to grab a consolation goal from the spot for the hosts on what had been a miserable morning. However, his cheeky attempt of a chipped penalty was seen early by Bentley who stepped to the side to catch the strike.
There is a quick turnaround for Emley as they are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Louth Town for a 7:45pm kick off.
