Pewits well beaten

AFC Emley are out of the Sheffield and Hallamshire senior cup after a 0-5 defeat to Handsworth Parramore in front of 175 fans at the Fantastic Media Welfare ground.
Despite never giving up and having a good go, Emley, in truth, were comprehensively beaten by a team a league higher.
There was little between the teams for the opening minutes, Parramore had the first chance from a right wing cross that was headed just wide of Adam Ledger's goal, a minute or so later, and Ledger made a comfortable save from a shot from just inside the area.

Emley then created the next chance, Nathan Howe showing good balance and skill in a powerful run but his shot was saved by the keeper, Parramore came back and saw a snapshot fired high over the bar and the Richard Hirst stand roof!
Both teams then looked to get the upper hand, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock, a fierce shot took a cruel deflection to leave Ledger beaten as the ball flew into the bottom corner.
Handsworth looked to double their lead, but Ledger turned a long range shot past the post for a corner, which was then headed wide.
Ben Burnett then tried his luck for Emley, but his shot went wide of the post, that was to be Emley's last notable chance of the half as Parramore took control and more or less sealed the game before half time.
A terrible defensive mix up saw Ledger stranded and Left Currie all alone to stroke the ball home for 2-0,and his second, on their next attack, Parramore netted a third in 12 minutes, from a right wing corner, the ball as headed into the top corner from a fine glancing header from Phillips.
Handsworth continued to attack but credit to the Emley defence which stood firm for the remainder of the half.
H/T 0-3
Emley would need to get an confidence boosting early goal in the 2nd half to give themselves a chance, but instead it was Parramore who struck less than a minute after the restart, a brilliant, well placed, long range lob from Fearon gave Ledger no chance and seemingly ended Emley's hopes.
But credit to the Pewits, who didn't give up and instead, continued to attack themselves but got no change from the well organised Handsworth back line.
A good cross and fine header by the visitors looked to have been number 5, but the ball bounced off the crossbar and Emley managed to scramble it to safety, by now, the visitors were well on top and comfortable but again, Emley kept at it, a great right wing cross from brad Kemp evaded everyone and rolled out of danger, and Handsworth then struck again with a well worked move, that saw a well placed shot by Hemmingway hit the top corner and that was just about game over.
Handsworth were well deserved victors but Emley were far from disgraced, just beaten by a better team on the night.

Emley will be hoping to pick up more league points at the weekend when they host Glasshoughton Welfare.
