Late strikes dashes Wembley hopes

AFC Emley's vase ended in dramatic style last night as Litherland REMYCA came from behind to win 4-3 with a late, late goal in a very entertaining game at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.
In a game that swung both ways and back again, it was the Liverpool based side who progressed to the next round.
Litherland, a level above Emley, showed their higher league credentials and intentions early and were to take the lead after 8 minutes when a corner was headed home from the back post by the centre back, Crist.
Litherland continued to press and thought they'd doubled their lead when the ball rebounded off the bar for a tap in for Foy, but to the Pewits' relief the offside flag had gone up.
However, Litherland were to double the lead a few minutes later, after Emley fashioned a chance at one end, the ball was back down the other end for a simple tap in by Jevons, it looked like being a long night for Emley.
But credit to the Pewits, who did get a foothold in the game, when they were awarded a penalty 5 minutes later, Michael Tunnacliffe stepping up to reduce the deficit, that goal would appear to settle Emley down and give them some confidence and they proceeded to have the better of the game for the next few minutes.
Half time approached with the home side trailing 1-2, but Ben Burnett had other ideas, sneaking in at the back post to level the scores in the 3rd minute of added on time in the first half.
H/T 2-2
Emley's renewed confidence and superiority over their higher ranked opponents was evident in the first minute of the second half, as within seconds, Jordan Townend had sensationally put Emley 3-2 up to the delight of the majority of the 199 supporters present!
That lead wasn't to last though as on 56 minutes, Litherland equalised with a spectacular lob from Quirk which left Adam Ledger well beaten.
Both teams continued to press for a winner and a trip to Bacup in the next round, but it appeared that the game would be heading for extra time, but sadly, for Emley, the visitors had other ideas!
There were 4 minutes of added time played when Litherland snatched it, a goal from Gregson breaking Emley's hearts right at the end, it was cruel on Emley, but they will surely take confidence from the fact that they had taken a side, a division higher all the way and never gave in, battling their way from 0-2 down to go 3-2 up must hopefully stand them in good stead for future games, it was certainly an entertaining evening even if the result didn't go the way for most of the fans there.
