The league's basement club threatened an upset after unconvincing first 45 for Emley, only to be the team caught napping at the start of the 2nd half.

When Ashley Flynn grabbed his 11th goal of the season moments after the start of the second half, there was relief for Emley players and supporters.

Most of the Emley players were delayed getting to the ground - arriving just 45 minutes before kick off and it was as though they were still on the bus for the first half. Half-chances were in strong supply but only Max Leonard's free-kick that rattled the host's bar truly raised the pulse.

Thankfully it was Lincoln who were lacking in the opening seconds of the first half as Flynn was put through one-on-one and tapped the ball past the opposition 'keeper.

The floodgates could, and perhaps should, have opened with clear cut chances going begging.

Emley looked like they needed a second and it came in the form of a Flynn header on 77 minutes after excellent work down the left from Alex Hallam and Danny Ryan. That took Flynn's tally to 12 in the five opening games of the season in all competitions.

Lincoln didn't sit back and fresh legs gave the Emley defence some moderate problems but, as the match ticked into added time, Jordan Townend volleyed a rebound straight into the top corner. A cracking strike that put to bed the Emley midfielder's memories of two-yellow cards in the same fixture last year.

It could have been four had the ref decided to give a penalty in the last second for a foul on Flynn, but he made a mercy call of blowing the whistle for full-time.

This was no vintage performance from Emley but three goals and three points were well deserved.
