AFC Emley are through to the 4th round of the NCEL League Cup after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Bottesford Town.

Inevitably it was Ashley Flynn who opened the scoring for Emley. When the number nine knocked in from a cross on 25 minutes, he notched a remarkable 50th for the season.

Despite a bright start for Bottesford, it was the visitors' centre-back Tom Brennan who doubled the advantage on 37 minutes with a header from a corner.

As the clock ticked towards half-time and the rain got heavier, Bottesford were back in touching distance with a neat drive past Adam Lawlor in goal from Brendan O'Callaghan

Shortly after the resumption there was a change in the middle as referee Ben Cass was replaced by assistant Natasha Wilson due to injury.

The hosts grabbed an equaliser from an Oliver Donald header on 50 minutes and thoughts already started to turn to extra time.

But Emley had other ideas, 'keeper Leigh Herrick had just made a series of fine saves to keep his team in the tie but even he couldn't match a sublime finish from distance from Coduri on 78 minutes.

The Pewitts then saw out what could have been a nervy last 12 minutes to earn a place in the next round. While Flynn's feat will rightly get the headlines, Jordan Coduri's stunner was a deserved reward for his part in the striker's success.
