Ashley Flynn's double and Kieran Ryan's effort see off Parkgate

Emley booked their place in the next round of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup with a 3-1 win over Parkgate at the Welfare Ground.

Ashley Flynn scored his 45th and 46th goals of a record breaking season, with a Kieran Ryan goal sandwiched in between. Alex Lill scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Emley started much the better of the two sides, getting the ball up the pitch and pressing the opposition, not allowing them to settle.

They managed to win a free kick not far outside the area, and Flynn curled it home into the bottom corner to give Emley the lead after just nine minutes.

The top scorer then had a couple of chances to double the lead, one where he was unable to bundle the ball home, and another following good play down the right from Jordan Coduri, who played it to Ryan, and he gave Coduri the return and he slipped it to Flynn, but his shot was saved by Ben Brunt in the Parkgate goal.

The lead was extended not soon after, with Ryan firing a shot low to the keeper’s bottom right from just inside the area to bring up 17 goals for the season as Emley made their dominance count.

Coduri had a shot of his own in the first half, but the keeper was equal to it. Parkgate, who sit 18th in the NCEL Premier Division, had some chances on goal late on in the half, with Alex Lill’s effort saved by Adam Lawlor, and first half substitute Daniel McKenzie dragged a shot wide of the mark.

Emley, and in particular Flynn, started the second half off how they finished the first, with the number 9 being played through by his strike partner Ryan, but Brunt managed to save with his legs.

There was no stopping Flynn a few moments later though as he rounded Brunt, and managed to find the net via both posts, with the Parkgate defender on the line unable to do anything.

That goal, Flynn’s 46th of the season, set a new NCEL Division One record, and we're only in November.

The two sides met earlier in the season, as Emley won 7-1 in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, and the match was heading in a similar direction, as Brunt had to be alert in the Parkgate goal, diving on a ball following an Emley corner.

Coduri had another effort go just wide as Emley continued to push in search of a fourth. Parkgate were searching for a goal too, and Lawlor had to be alert to smother the ball as Lill ran through on goal.

He was unable to preserve the clean sheet though, as substitute Jake Ashton evaded some challenges coming in from the left, and finding Lill who tucked home his 7th of the season to score a consolation for the Rotherham-based side.

That was the only blemish on what was a good performance by the home side, and the win extends Emley’s unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions. They travel to Eccleshill United on Saturday as they return to NCEL Division One action.
